Alright, so i have an issue. I have a SBE. got it in like 2001 or so. I have missed more ducks with this gun than my browning pump. i have patterned and patterned and patterned. i went this morning for my first decent hunt of the year and 4 greenheads lock up and i come out of layout blind. nothing. not a damn thing. 3 shells and no ducks. i knew i hit 'em b/c of their reaction. has anyone had this problem? I shoot a combination of federal blackcloud, winchester supremes, and winchester x pert.

Have you ever had the gun fitted to you or changed shims?
I played with the shims included with the gun last year and my shooting % shot through the roof. The way the gun came to my shoulder after I made the adjustments was night and day compared to how it was prior.
Take the time to do it - You'll start knockin' everything out of the sky.

i thought for a while it was the blackcloud but i'm not the expert. the barrel is 28'' long and i even had the problem while dove hunting this september. i missed more than i hit. then i take another gun out and just knock 'em out of the sky.
no changes have been made to gun. i use a ic/mod choke tube.

Sounds like you need a gun fitting. Also confidence can play a big role in shooting sometimes. If you have it in your head that I AM going to miss, you probably will. Try getting your gun fitted and then make sure you are taking reasonable shots. IMO if you are hunting over decoys most shots should be well within 30 yards at the most. I have exactly the same gun and love it. But if I can't take my shots inside 30 yards I let them go. There are times we will pull up on a group of birds, well within our 30 yards, and you say to yourself here is a dead duck. Three shots later nothing falls and you have to laugh. What the heck happened there? Reality is WE MISSED! That happens to everyone on this forum at one time or another. Everytime the gun goes off, we think something should drop. You have to be able to laugh it off and try again on the next duck. Don't let missing get in your head, it happens. One thing I found that really helps me is shooting sporting clays in the off season. There again good practice but you will miss once in a while. Most of all HAVE FUN your shooting will come around.;)
haha Have the gun fitted. And check your blackcloud patterns. We couldn't get consistant patterns with that trash. One minute is blew a hole in our board then next would have a nice pattern, then it would have a huge hole in the middle. Yeah needless to say I will never buy that stuff again.

you ever shoot clays? the more practice you have with a gun, the more proficent you will be.. but what everyone else had to say also matters.

Dont worry I'm having the same problem. After 10-12 straight misses you start rushing the shot. And I missed easy shots !!!! just take your time one at a time dont worry about a triple just get one then two then you can worry about three. that was my problem and I shoot all the time.

Funny you post this! I have SBE that I shoot very well with and I just got an Extrema 2 the start of the year. I can't hit crap with it either!!!

You may want to check the point of impact, it may be shooting high and either a shim or a gun fit is in order or it may be just your shooting mechanics like head lifting or such.

I had the same exact problem with my Nova. I took it out and practiced with it a lot, patterned it 3 times, and tried different ammo. No matter what I did, I could not figure out why in the heck I was ALWAYS missing birds. This year I am shooting my dad's SBEII and I've shot that thing great. The sight picture, the way it pulls up, everything is perfect. I shoot great with that gun. I went and shot my Nova another hunt and didn't get a dang thing with it. Bang, bang, bang; nothing on the ground. That gone fits me great, it pulls up great, and so on, but I cannot find the sweet spot with it. With the SBEII, I have that sweet spot dialed in. It is probably just be a matter of you not being able to hit with that gun. That's how it is with me. Good luck!

Yep, if Tony doesn't take 'er I've got dibs! Lol. It may have to do with the choke you're shooting too. Are you trying to shoot a really tight choke? If so, you may not be on the birds. It'll pattern perfect, but if you're not on 'em there's nothing you can do with the gun. It's all you. Good luck getting it figured out!

i have a sbeII and love mine i just got it in august and sometimes i miss but it is because i get trigger happy now that i can let 3 shells fly in a matter of 2 sec lol if i take my time i can really wack them so just put in some more pratice with it and give it a whirl.

SAme problem here. i shot a browning gold 4 ever then got a silver last year. couldnt hit jack-shit w/ it. ended up switching back to my gold. then i switched back and finally got the hang off the baby hump of the silver. the gold didnt have one and i had gotten used to shooting w/o one. the when i got the silver i was shooting the same way i was w/ the gold. ended up shooting over everything. just practice......

Depending on how close your shooting? If your using Black Cloud chances are if it under 20-25 yrds-it way to tight . Try opening up your choke and going back to something normal .If that doesn't work I would agree with others that your rushing the shot . Best way to fix that is go back to a pump gun which will force you to slow down .Good luck
