After seeing the amount of birds around last weekend, I felt as though I had to come home and try for some ducks again. None of my hunting buddies were home, so I decided I would head out to the lake solo. I got on the water with a couple hours to spare, and battled the wind to the calm side of the lake.
I set out the mix of divers and puddlers, and patiently waited for the sun to crest the treeline. Due to the cloud cover, it took a little longer than expected, but once it came up a few birds started to fly. A flock of mallards took off across the water and with some light calling the hooked right in. Although it wasnt easy, I picked out green and managed two out. About an hour passed until I saw another bird, a flock of three mallards were a little curious about my spread and with some more light calling they pitched right in. I picked out the drake and two hens flew away.
Although I was one short on my limit of green, it was a fun experience to hunt solo, and it was nice to get out and enjoy the morning.
