I live in AR, and we do a lot of river hunting around my area. Even though our season doesn’t start until this weekend, I was out scouting yesterday and the majority of the ducks i saw were sitting on sand bars between islands 50-60 yards out. I’ve tried sitting on the islands in the past, but the ducks just go right to the sand bars and stay just out of range. I’ve thought about using my lay down blinds, but i just don’t see them working with no brush or anything to hide them in. If you have any advice please share it.

There is one way that i have heard will work, if you dig you blind down. Take your blind and dig it down to about the doors..keep in mind not to dig to low cause water will still be in the sand below. I use an older blind for this just to keep my new one from getting covered with sand and having a mess in the field. Also, if you use some drift wood or other natural vegitation just to brake you up a bit, it wont hurt anything, just as long as it looks some what natural.
Hope this helps

Also paint the blind to match the color of the sand bar. That way if no driftwood is available you can just dig in and hunt.
DO a search on here Doug Steinke has some post concerning this very thing.

I would also suggest digging in the sand bars. But if they are the shallow ones like I assume you are seeing on the river here at home then you will hit water pretty quickly. I use the Field Khaki blinds and we have painted them to match the sand bar as much as possible. Dig down as far as you can and the use the sand you dig out to cover you blind and rub it into the doors of the blind as well. You can also use decoys to help hide you profile of the ground blind.
Good luck this weekend I live in Russellville and we plan on getting after em this weekend with all we have. Let us know how ya do.

We hunt sandbars 90% of the time on the red river in sw ark. we just lay our blinds out and use some hay and driftwood to break up the outline . digging down is really alot of wasted work due to the high water table.just mud up your laydown and find some large driftwood and cover up with hay . just set up off the edge and pile decoys all around ya.. good luck this weekend.

I know where you hunt, dont worry there will be PLENTY of people that will be driving around in boats to keep them moving. To get a spot you will have to camp out on your spot the afternoon before.
Good Luck
