Buck Gardner has a really good CD. I don't remember the name of it off the top of my head. He explains how to control your air pressure through the call and what words to say to make different kinds of calls. He will even turn the call around and blow though the back of it to show you how your air flow should sound. Great CD!

After you find a good instructional CD and learn the basics, go to the refuge and listen to live ducks and geese. That is priceless!

I think one of the best ways to learn how to call ducks is to get as close as you can to a large number of them such as a roosting area an listen and watch them you can hear what sounds they are making an when they are making them this will also help you learn how to read ducks. Once you hear the sounds they are making to each other then try to mimick them. If you can record the ducks so you can go back an use this as a reference source. This may not be the way to learn how to operate a duck call in a way that will put you on the Main street stage come November but it can teach you to sound like ducks and kill ducks.

I had a single mallard hen land in my spread one morning and listening to her for 15 minutes or so helped me more than any instructional video or tape.
