who needs them? they only make up a small portion of the bag out here on the salt water . I know they are the bread and butter of most waterfowlers in the rest of the country but come on guys we need BRANT and SEA DUCKS. only problem I see is that Mr. Johannson has not carved either one . But maybe one day I can retire my carry-lites

You may only see a few mallards, but I never, NEVER see Brant or sea ducks...
I've got a better chance of seeing a 6X6 bull elk come walking through the spread.:D

There would be alot of different poses for all the clam eaters out there thats for sure...
Somebody might have to provide some picutes to ensure that they get the carving right on them

Probably not :D There has been a random scattering of sea ducks shot in MN in the past couple years, granted all on big water, but sea ducks none the less!

pretty easy to do, only thing is the plastic on carrylites is not made to hold paint so to speak so yearly repaints are normal and neccessary

The thing that the guys who push for sea ducks need to understand is that there is a very very small group of people that even hunt sea ducks in comparison to how many waterfowlers there are that don't. Sea duck/diver hunters also tend to be very sentimental, and many don't like to hunt over mass produced plastic blocks, as this, in their eyes, is sacrilegious to the whole purpose they are out there. Couple that with the fact that sea duck hunting is absolutely brutal on equipment, causing a lot of sea duck hunters to prefer foam, cork, or wood decoys instead, which can be tossed around and shot without being damaged AS bad. Sea ducks also tend to be much much dumber than puddle ducks or even than divers, and a lot of guys that dont make their own or buy handmade decoys just dont see a purpose to super realistic decoys. I have watched hundreds of bluebills and lots of scoters(even though I havent hunted them more than a few times, which I admit) land 2 feet from blacked out flambeau mallards. Yes, mallards and wigeon will do this too, but they are hunted so much more that they get conditioned and realism does become necessary. Everyone knows that if Avery came out with sea duck decoys they would be the cats ass, but there are just a lot of reasons for guys NOT to buy them. Nothing wrong with avery, but the attitude of many sea duck hunters, the conditions under which they hunt, and the smartness of the birds just make sea duck decoys unnecessary.

build it and they will be bought by sea duck guides who don't want the weight or expense of wood or corks. I think they would be shocked by how many waterfowlers hunt sea ducks on both coasts and the great lakes. BUT what about the brant? are we going to be forced to make v-boards ( they work great) or carve our own. I guess Avery is just doing what is expected.

they would have to be special unsinkable....you end up shooting deeks with them clam eaters flying a foot off the water. WW talked about tearing up equipment....Is that why you carry a extra prop:eek::D. I think they would sell more FB (((((WIGEON)))))) then sea ducks and Brant combined.

The way I see the FB wigeon is this: If they make FB wood ducks, the average buyer will buy4-6 to set up on logs in their spread. If they make FB wigeon, I know I would buy at least 5 dozen for hunting the pastures here in the NW. Even if less people will buy them, they are going to be bought in such greater quantities that it would probably be more profitable.
