Hey guys I just started flocking some decoys and was wondering, Do you guys put 2 coats of flocking on or just one? I did a few floaters to see how they hold up but how have you guys found the flocking to hold up?

Two coats of flocking is unnecessary if you do the first coat right the first time. With a properly prepared substrate either oil or latex based adhesive will work great. If you use a rustoleum oil based paint, it's best to leave the top off of the paint for a day or so and stir it frequently to let it thicken up. I have also put silica non-skid additive in it to thicken it up, but the point is the adhesive must be thick (chocolate sauce is about the right consistency). Aero adhesive already comes in this fashion, so it's ready to use on a prepared substrate. I recommend flocking with an air assisted gun over the patty cake or shake and bake methods. I have verified through experimentation, trial and error that the air assisted flocking gun from donjer produces a thicker, more even and velvety surface than any other method (except electrostatic), and since the flock fibers are evenly shot into the adhesive, the resulting surface is very durable as there are less of the fibers laid on their sides, and more of them sticking straight up like an electrostatic job.

Usually one coat will work if you do it right.
