Never hunted out of a Four Rivers but can't say enought about my MoMarsh DP's. Picked them up early this year and used them several times on spring snows! Thing is a Cadillac compared to my 10 ft Aquapod! You can usually find good deals on used ones, just keep your eye open!

I would say the big thing is if you hunt with a dog or not. If you do I would reccomend the 4 Rivers layout boat. It has a nice roomy platform behind the hunter for the dog.
If you do not hunt with a dog then I would flip a coin between 4 Rivers and Momarsh

I may have told this story on this board before but it can use retelling one more time.
A few years ago I was layout hunting a medium sized lake for divers. I paddled about 1/2-3/4 of a mile from the launch in my Stealth 1200 to an area the birds had been feeding in the day before. As I was tossing out my rig a tender boat came in about 200yds. away and set up a rig, tossed a layout boat in and went to shore. As dawn broke the wind shifted and was blowing in at us. The birds really started to fly and I had several birds in the bag when I looked over and saw the layout boat next to me was gone. The boat had sank in the mildly heavy seas. Luckily they had a tender boat and it was on its way to pick the guy up. I finished my limit, Picked up my dekes and made it back to the launch before those guys got back. When they finally arrived I saw that their layout boat was a one man Four Rivers. I was glad I was paddling a Stealth that day.

Maybe i'll go with MoMarsh, but they seem a bit high profile. I'll have to see.

The Fatboy DP is LOW LOW LOW!! This boat is as low as any other boat on the market... I think it's around 15" high...

You might want to look at Huntemboats before you get a momarsh. www.huntemboats.com

Most true layouts are 10.5 - 11" out of the water. 15" is very high.

Good thing to know. Any good "true" layout is foam filled and coast guard approved. If anyone hunts out of one that is not, they are asking for problems, especially where we hunt.

Huntemboats makes a 10 footer and a 12 footer that are both coast guard approved. And the 12 footer only weighs 85 lbs
Momarsh lists the DP as 15" height with a 4" loaded draft.
There is a reason our boats are 15" tall. I have made shorter boats in the past and you sacrifice both safety and concealment.
Lay on the ground and sit at a 30 degree angle as you would while hunting. The distance will be at least 15". Also, you will be most likely on a layout seat or pad of some sort, so that adds a couple of inches.
IMO, a boat that is any flatter than that has you hanging out of it like an Oscar Meyer weiner in a vienna sausage casing! It is a lot easier to camo the boats than it is to hide a hunter in them.
Also, the shorter a boat is, generally, the less safe it is going to be.
Thanks guys!

BS. Our Bankes Revolution is 11" out of the water, and your MLB Supermag is roughly the same and is plenty deep to get you below the height of the boat and has been hunted in 5' waves. For a layout boat 15" is too high.
Now if your calling a sneak boat a layout, then I'd imagine 15" is about what you would expect.
So you are not taking box depth into consideration then. Waterline to cockpit coaming distance would be about 11-12 inches on ours as well since they draft 3-4 inches.
FYI, depth on the Revolution is 17". So, it is 2" taller than the Fatboy or Fatboy DP.

Correct. 11-12 makes more sense.

Not taller as in out of the water, you really should say deeper. 2" deeper makes for a much more comfortable sit also.
Give me two boats 11" out of the water, but one is 2" deeper and I'll take that one all day since it will have more foot room, which is at a premium in a layout.
G, thanks for your wisdom. Now we all know the proper way to measure how tall/ deep/ high a boat is. I will be sure to let all the other manufacturers know that their spec sheets are incorrect!

Don't be a smart ass now. I was talking height out of water, you were talking total depth of cockpit.
