hey, i'm thinking about building my own layout boat. is it possible instead of coating it with fiberglass just take rubber coating for like truck beds and just spray coats of that on it? or does rubber coating weigh to much? just thought it may be a idea just seeing if it was good or not. thanks

two things to consider... weight, and chemical re-action. Some chemicals will actually eat foam, fiberglass, etc... might want to check that out first

The glass adds strength to the foam and is abrasion resistant. If you get holes in the rubber coat water will get into the foam and soon your boat will a weigh a ton.

I agree, i'd go with fiberglass. I hunt out of a homemade fiberglass layout boat, which has been used for over 20 years, and it is fantastic. Take care of it, and it'll last you a lifetime.
