Its time for a new pair a waders and i've heard quite a few people talking about the breathable waders. Whats everyones opinion on them? Will they be warm come november/december when i'm breaking through ice to hunt?

I've owned various pairs since their inception. I hear people all the time telling me if you dress right they are warm in cold weather. I think they are full of it. In michigan, they are good for about the first 3 weeks of season IMO.

I live in Central IL and I only use my until it hits 35 degrees then come out my Cabelas SUper Mags. I bought breathables for dog training, teal season, and maybe first few weeks of reg season. If there is ice or snow breathables stay home. Hope this helps

After the last two seasons wearing breathables I will never go back to neos again. Last year when it was close to 0 deg during our cold spell I put the neos on and hated them after getting use the the breathables.
I have the cabelas warrior II waders that are breathable but have some neoprene on the legs. I also have a pair of the hodgeman breathables with 1200 grams thinsulate...the warriors have 1000 grs. If you want breathables I would get them with at least 1000 grams thinsulate. I wear fleeced line pants or wader pants and I have never had an issue wearing breathables all season.

I haven't had a problem with the cold and breathables either. When it "locks up" down here I wear my goretex insulated pants under mine and I'm good to go. I have no plans on going back to neos either. Walking in the lacrosse alpha swampfox waders is MUCH better than neos and believe it or not, my feet never got cold in the 600 gram boots. Crazy thing is I'm used to wearing 1000g waders and I got cold several times. I guess alot of that has to do with boot fit and the lacrosse boots are extremely comfortable.

If your gonna go with breathable's and live in MI plan on going a size big for layering. In the foot depending how much thinsulate you go with.

All 5 mm neo's are going to be the ticket, but on the breathable's the guys that have switched said they will never buy another pare of neo's! Don't know how shoo goo works on breathables but it does wonders on neo's!

I like the cabelas supermags. 4yrs and counting, spend at least 40 days a season in mine between duck and goose season.

I hunt in breathable waders all season long. I have the original pair Cabelas came out with for early season and the ones with 1000 grams of insulation for laster in the year. I would never wear go back to neoprene after wearing these. I hate to sweat when I hunt and I can layer to suit the weather under the breathables.

I've been wearing Cabela's breathables going on my 6th season now. Same pair the whole time. I bought them used in the Bargain Cave for $25. They are 2 sizes bigger than my regular boot size. They also must be "husky" cut. I'm a rather "portly" fellow so by them time I "layer" up for what ever conditions I'm good to go. I don't ever remember feeling cold in them. I've broke ice in them, hunted 80 degree days in them. The dry out quicker than neo's and don't have to worry about dry rotting them out. That's just my experience with one pair over 5 yrs and I couldn't be happier with them even though I look a little funny in them being so baggy when it's warm out. :)

I bought a pair of the Mack's PW breathables last season in Marsh Grass. I can honestly tell you I will never own another pair of waders. I don't know how cold is cold but I was breaking Ice in 5 degree weather and was fine. You just have to layer up underneath them. They are very durable and can withstand anything I've put them through. Hope this helps.

I have had two pairs. Both lasted longer than ANY neoprenes, at any price, from several manufacturers. They are easy to walk in. There is no resistance when you walk, you dont get as sweated up, so you end up staying cooler when its warm and warmer when its cold. I like mine alot. I still use neoprene now and then, but, for the most part it's breathables.

My brother has the Warrior II that Cabelas makes and a buddy has some Cabelas breathables......that is what I am buying this year. They both think they are awesome for walking, comfort, and love everything about them. I am keeping my neoprenes for the really cold hunts but most of the time I will be in breathables this season.

I'm in waders almost every month of the year, and there's nothing warmer than boot foot neoprenes, but when it comes to being comfortable after you walk in, break ice, set deeks, the sun rises and it warms up, boot foot breathables can't be beat. You can put layers on and off under them where as neoprenes are what they are. I like Cabelas brand for the fact that I really punish my waders and they have great return policy.

I have breathable fishing waders from Cabela's and I've fished right up until the ice chunks are too big. If you wear proper long underwear, and polar fleece, you'll be warmer than with neos in the long run.

The down side is I'd hate to rip them. Neos are easy to repair with marine goop. I guess breathables would be too if you patched them properly.

I disagree. Im from michigan and wear mine all year long. There were a couple times last year were it was cold enough that the water froze to the waders as soon as it touch them. at the end of the hunt i took the waders off and they could stand up on their own. i stayed warm enough.

the only time i would tip the scales in the favor of neos is if you are on an ice hunt and have to stand in crotch deep water or deeper for an extended period of time. other than that, get the cabelas warriors and dont think twice about it.
