JOURNAL NOTES: October 7th was the second day of our hunt and brought much of the same weather conditions as day one. The winds were out of the northwest at 20 miles per hour and had a bite. We set up in a chopped corn field that we had scouted the night before. There were thousands of geese along with a good concentration of mallards using this particular field. We began setting our decoys out by 5:00AM to make sure we were set up by first light. The birds were moving right away in the morning, so we wanted to make sure everything was in place. We put our decoys in a semi “V” pattern with family groups behind. The shells on motion stakes were showing great motion with the high winds.

Larry and I had a good feeling about this hunt and were rewarded with a nice limit of honkers! The first group worked our spread at first light, and decoyed very nicely. We had several flocks of snow geese in the area and were excited about a chance at shooting some of them. The spread we had, which consisted of all Canadas, made it challenging getting them to decoy. We sure enjoyed watching flock after flock come off the roost. The sight of these birds coming out was something you would never forget. We ended up filling our limits within 20 minutes of first light. We continued to let birds work the spread in hopes of some great pictures.
