I'll tell you what I don't like- Winchester experts. Tried a couple of boxes cause they were cheap. You get what you pay for with those. i am a big fan of winchester Supremes, but I am packing some Kent fasteel on a spring snowgoose trip. Hope it works as well for me as it does for everyone else.

I have had great results with the Winchester Xperts HV in 3" #4's , during the late sesason.During the early season 2.75" work equally well! I will continue to use them. In the 20-35 yd range you can't beat them. Course I like to get up close and personal with my Widgeon :D

Kent,s are good. I used the federal speed shoks in #3 early in the year and they will do a damn damn on decoying birds. I really like the nitro steels in 3in. #2,1 for late season the #1 allowed me to take some 50 yd shots on birds that where landing outside my spread in the late season.

Hevi-Shot 4’s are Deadly on Ducks and the wallet. On the other end of the scale I like the Experts 3” 2’s just fine.

For ducks, Winchester High Velocity 3 inch # 3's early and 1's later in the season. I have also had good luck with Kent Fasteel but I think Winchester's powder is much cleaner burning.

I have had GREAT luck with Kent. I like 3's early, and 1 or 2's later.... 2's for divers for sure.

After shooting Hevi-Shot for the past 3 years I have concluded that my favorite load is their 3" 1 1/4 oz, #4. It easily handles ducks, Canada Geese, and even Sandhill Cranes!

Winchester Supreme 3 1/2 BB for geese
Winchester Supreme 3 #2 for ducks
I used the Xpert HV at the end of the season and was VERY impressed with it. #2's at 1550 will kill 'em dead.

KENT faststeel all the way. 3inch 1 1/8 3's for ducks, and 3 1/2inch 1 3/8 BB's for any geese from 15 to 40 yards. shoot the same loads all the time and you can turn most any shells into killers, just dont change it up a bunch, oh yeah and briley light modified for everything.

As I can still use lead shot for waterfowl my favourite for geese is 3" Winchester turkey load HV #4 1 5/8 in 3" and for duck it is Win XX magnum 2 3/4" buffered coppered plated #4 or #5. Kills them real dead way out there :D .

i prefer Remington nitro steel #2 for ducks. My uncle shot a green head three times blowing feathers out each shot and it still flew off. That duck cost him six dollars. in all cases though steel shot sux, period. heavy shot isnt worth the $20 a box.

my uncle was shooting Heavy shot #4, by the way.

3" or 2 3/4" Remington Nitro-Steel #2's or #4's. I perfer #4's for my nova pump. And I only shoot the Winchester X-Perts for teal. Only because there cheaper and a teal is not that hard to bring down if you can hit `em.

O and one more thing.... on the Hevi-Shot. Those things work wonders. As long as you hit the bird any where up to 65 yards he's going down and down hard. My dad shot a shovler at about 60 yards last year with a 3" #2 Hevi-Shot. And droped it dead in it's tracks. But we work our ducks up in close so there's really no need for the 60-70 yard shot, unless you wan't to just look cool and nail them that far away after everyone else has emptyed their guns, then it might be cool to have.

As a professional guide i was often asked this same question. I am a big fan of remington's nitro-steel mag, but after the introduction of hevi-shot, nothing compares! As for size, the nitro-steel i like the 3 1/2 in #1's. It not only patterns well, but is also big enough too take out a goose at 35 yrds. As for hevi-shot i like to shoot the #4's.

i don't know if you guys know this but where i am from in illinois they have a winchester factory here. the xperts are infact the reject shot from the dry-loks. the shot is all diferent shapes so you tend to have more stray pellets. just letting you guys know if you didn't already
