I'm in need of a new shotgun, I've been shooting the super nova but this year I had nothing but problems with it. I was wanting a super black eagle but when I went into the local shop we got to talking bout the new super vinci. Same price, so I'm stuck on which I want.
Who's got what and whats the pros/cons of each?
Thanks

SBEII for me because I got it 2+ years ago (obviously the Super Vinci wasn't around then). Being left handed and not wanting shells ejecting across my face, it was my only option and I must say I'm extremely happy. If I were buying now, I'd certainly throw the Super Vinci in the mix. When you pay that much for a gun it behooves you to handle them both and see what you prefer. I am sure the SV is a great gun, but it doesn't have the proven track record like the SBEII does.....yet.

Easily it would be the SBE II for me. I've been shooting my SBE I for over ten years without ever having a problem of any kind and the SBE II is just my SBE I with some improvements to the barrel/choke system and some added recoil reduction. I love the look and feel of my SBE and the Super Vinci just goes to "out there" for me and my taste. Don't care for the look or feel of the gun, at all. Just don't feel like a Benelli to ME. Just my opinions though. I'm sure they are great guns, I honestly just can't stand to look at them...haha...and if I'm gonna pay that much for a gun, I better like EVERYTHING about it.

SBE2 is proven. The Vinci is too. I have shot the 3" vinci and it is also a beast. I really like it. It will be my next gun. If your looking at an SBE2, check out the American series. It can be had at cabelas for like $1100...

ive had a super nova 2 years, and it is one solid gun. i also like the fact it is a pump, i think they are more reliable than autoloaders. what kind of problems are you having with yours?

I've been real happy with my SBE11 and also with my M-2 and was real happy with all the Benellis Iv'e used at work since we started useing them in 1989. I like the simplicity of the vinci and would probably go that way if I were buying a new gun except for the fact that they are uglier than a row of dirty a--holes.

I hate my SBE II. It's given me nothing but problems. First, no matter what shim, choke or shell I have in it, it shoots 12-18 inches high. Also the paint is chipping even though I babyed it like crazy. Also one of the shims split right in half. I will admit it has never once jammed on me, but I hate it. I will never buy a Benelli piece of crap again.

Not what I wanted to hear, since I would have to wait 10 months if I was to get super vinci. I have heard that a lot of guys like the SBE II, is it possible that yours is just a lemon?

I bought it brand new in June. Yes, I do believe it is an exception to the rule, I know lots of guys that love their Benelli's, but that makes me no less mad. Also they have terrible customer support, it took me 2 weeks of calling every day to talk to a live person.

I had alot of problems this year with it freezing and not cycling after the shot. I had to yank on the forend to get it to cycle and on several occasions it would lock up on the 2nd or 3rd shot and it wouldn't fire, eject and it was really tough to cycle the action even after pushing the release button by the trigger guard.

I can sympathize with ya on your issues, but have to post a contradiction to the customer service.
I too had nothing but problems with my SBE II when I first bought it. Nothing but problems. It would jam on about every other round. At first I just thought it needed to be "broken in", so continued to use it for a while. Then I thought it was just a problem with particular brands or length of shells (3" were horrible, and it didn't like Winchester at all). Then I finally called Benelli and they told me to clean the recoil tube and sent me some "special" directions on how to do it (tells me I wasn't the first to have this problem), which I did and it didn't help. Tried about every load on the market and nothing seemed to work. I was pretty much about to turn the thing into a canoe paddle.
I finally broke down and sent the gun back to Benelli. They called me a couple times while it was there and in the end they said everything was in spec and that they couldn't recreate the problem.
HOWEVER - as a solution they replaced every single moving part in the gun, new trigger assembly, new bolt, new recoil tube, new barrel, everything. Didn't cost me a penny. Sent it back to me and haven't had a single issue with it over the last 1000 rounds or so. Took about 3 weeks from the day I sent it out to the day I had it back.
Through the whole thing, Benelli customer service was always helpful and willing to try and get it diagnosed and fixed. They wanted me to send it back in right off the bat and I chose not to hoping that I could get it figured out on my own (stubborness).
So long story short, I did get a lemon from Benelli, which arguably shouldn't happen with a $1500 piece of machinery, but they did what it took to make it right and since then I couldn't be happier with the gun, it's been flawless and shoots great in every extreme condition concievable.
Also I'll throw out there that I did split a Crio choke tube (my own fault, snow in the barrel) and Benelli sent me a new one free of charge all I did is call them and they had it to me in the mail the next day.

Glad to see someone got good customer service. It's just like, I payed $1600 for the gun, it shouldn't do that, and if it would, they should give me excellent customer service. I'm hopefully picking up an 870 supermag this week for $300 brand new.

That my friend has nothing to do with the gun. You need to clean it real good, then apply a thin layer of Breakfree CLP on the bolt rails. THen you will NEVER have a slow cycling benelli again. I guarantee that is your problem. About 7 years ago, I sold a Beretta 390 because of it. I bought a SBE and had the same prob until I found Breakfree. Good luck..you have an awesome gun in that SBE2

My super nova has been taken down and cleaned and oiled with breakfree after EVERY hunt since I got it 2 years ago.

I had similar issues on an SBEII in the past. Some dumb ass decided it was a good ideal to oil the recoil spring tube;) Took the torch to the tube and removed the spring and liberally cleaned with gun scrubber. That solved the issue. You can basically get the same issue by using too much oil on the rails for the bolt. Too much lube on the rails of the bolt and it collects powder residue etc... and can slow it down a lot. Too much lube + cold temps also doesn't help. Apply as little of a synthetic oil to the rails as possible.

Naw, Wastinshells, I was very polite and stated my problem, and they told me that changing the shim would fix it, and it didn't, so I called back and they never answered again. I call that bad customer service, as it only took 2 days to get them the first time.

I have the 'regular' Vinci, and I love it. I can only assume that the Super Vinci is the exact same gun, only with 3.5" capability. Some people complain about the looks of the Vinci, but that doesn't matter to me one single bit. The gun has gone BOOM every time I asked it to, and it could not be easier to take apart and clean. I will likely never own another shotgun that doesn't have the inline inertia system.

sbe2 all the way, just finished my first season with mine and loved everything about it. Just ordered a magazine extension for it and getting ready to put it to the test while beating on some snow geese

This is a good point. There are virtually NO aftermarket parts for the Vinci/Super Vinci yet. The SBE2 has tons of aftermarket stuff, but there is none for the Vinci. Might not matter to you, but it is something to consider. The Vinci only holds 3+1 without the plug, so a tube extension would be nice, but I can't find one for it yet.

I ran a super black eagle II all year long, and I can tell you that gun is nice. I havent tried either vinci, but they seem to fit amazingly on my shoulder and I have always liked the safety on the front of the trigger guard, and plus they have that sweet case!
