No drought and every pothole is currently full around here. I have seen more nesting waterfowl this year then any year in the past 15. My dad says 1978 was the last year he as seen so many birds with chicks.

I must agree the west is loaded with nesting/brooding ducks and geese. Although it has been an odd one. I have seen clutches that are into dark feathers and while another spot, they will still be little yellow fuzzballs.
I walked a hen and two baby chicks off the roadway about 45 days ago. While, Just today I spoke with a lady that had a hen mallard nesting in her back yard that was sitting on 13 eggs. So hopefully they will all be able to fly come fall :D
