A friend of mine wants to go turkey hunting with me this spring and we were think ing of going to a new area. I have been to MO, SD, MN, and NE but was thinking of maybe chasing Rio's for a change. Kansas comes to mind since it is shorter drive. Does anyone have any information on a good area to look into? Public land is not a problem. I am not big on paying to hunt. Would prefer a hand shake or public ground. Thanks.

Here in Kansas. If you just scout around some of our resivors. You can drop the hammer on some ol` toms. I usually hunt on a creek that has a field to one side and is only about 150 yards from a dirt road. We killed to turkeys there last year. A nice tom ( my dad ), and I shot a big jake. There are plenty of turkeys around. This particular place is about 4 to 5 miles from Marion Lake here in east-central KS. If you where to just scout around/drive around the country roads with in 20 miles of the lake you could defanitly get you tom. They usually feed in fields of to the sides of the road. So just driving around you could find a place to hunt. Hope this is of some help...Let me know.
