After speaking with several hunters that have been in the woods doing a little scouting for the upcoming deer bow season in the south, it looks like we had a good hatch again this year. A lot of the south had heavy rains in the early spring which forced a lot of hens to nest in the hills which is a good thing because predators are less likely to destroy a nest & late season backwater is less likely to wash away some of the nests.

I know it's several months away, but my blood is already pumping. Is anyone else had any poult encounters this fall?

We are seeing lots of turkeys in my area of the state too(South Central Ky). I had to stop the truck to let the flocks cross the road the other day on the way to the local duck blind drawings. I'm lookin' forward to a great fall turkey season.

I DRIVE 5 MILES TO WORK EVERY MORNING AND SEE LOTS OF BIRDS. I SAW 59 BIRDS ON THE WAY IN TODAY.
3 OF WHICH WERE TOMS THAT WERE STRUTTING LIKE IT WAS SPRING TIME.

I HAVE SEEN AND HEARD QUITE A BIT OF GOBBLING THIS FALL. I GUESS DUE TO THE UNSEASONABLY WARM WEATHER WE ARE HAVING.

Turpin,

I have had a few people tell me that they also have heard a few beards this fall while they were out bow hunting. After 2 or 3 people told me I began to put some truth to it.

I know we have had some warmer weather, but also the population is reaching a point where there are more birds in places where there used to not be any flocks. This only increases everyone's odds to hear an "Ole Tom" during the fall.

If I ever get a chance to get in the woods this fall, I might be one of those lucky one's to hear a bird.

Are you going this fall any?

WE JUST FINISHED UP OUR 6 DAY FALL HUNT AND KILLED 31 BIRDS IN MIDDLE TN.

WE HAD 2 MORNINGS WHERE WE HEARD BIRDS GOBBLING IN THE ROOST AND ON THE GROUND. WE HAD ONE LARGE GOBBLER FLOCK WITH ABOUT 20 LONGBEARDS IN IT THAT DID SOME GOBBLING AND DISPLAYING.
