On Sunday I met up with a few of my hunting buddies and headed out to the Kansas River for a great mallard hunt. The river was low, around 2 foot deep all across, so my outboard motor was sucking up a lot of sand and was clogging up the "pee hole". We decided that we were going to hunt and then clean it out when we were ready to leave. We set up our decoys on a small sand bar and had a great hunt. At the end of the hunt we packed up the decoys and got the dog loaded up well after dark. My dog, Mason, jumped up in the front of the boat, which he never does and then decided that he wanted to be in the back of the boat with me. So he decided that he was going to walk over the decoys, and the guns which were cased and laying on top of the decoys. Once Mason got his place in the boat, we took off for home. We got about 10 minutes down the river and noticed that the "pee hole" was not peeing any more. So I got the boat stopped and got the motor cover off and started working on the motor. All of the sudden I got an urge to look behind me and that is when I see my Avery Floating Gun Case, floating down the river with my $900 shotgun inside it. The only thing that I can think is that when my dog jumped from the front of the boat to the back he knocked my gun into the river and it floated down the river for about 10 minutes before we stopped to fix the motor.

Thanks Avery for making such a great product!!!! You guys saved me a bunch of money!!!!!

It is awesome to hear stories such as this one where one of the Avery products help make a hunt better. I know that you could have went without dropping your gun in the water but what a relief to be able to recover it. I have encountered days like this when my Floating Gun Case saved me as well. I think that it is still one of the best products in the Avery line. Please let us know if we can help you with anything else. Thank you for your interest in the Avery and Greenhead Gear lines of product.

Good Hunting!

Sean, that is an awesome story, thanks for sharing it with us. Hey, are there still big numbers of ducks in Kansas?

Sean,

That truely is a great story. Just think of all the headaches that Floating Gun case saved you. I use mine for more then just hunt on the water, they add great protection while transporting to and from the field. Glad this story had a happy ending. Stories like this I'm sure will change alot of hunters minds about switching to the Floating Guy case if they have not already done so.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Scott we do have a good number of birds in the area of both ducks and geese. Our weather here has been screwed up it went from a high of -2 one day to a high of almost 70 the next. Right now we are looking for snow and ice the next day or two, but the hunting is only getting better. Our dark goose season goes until Feb 6th and we have a late duck season that opens on Jan 22nd and goes until Jan 30th. There will be a lot of ducks killed on that season...Give me a shout if you and your crew would like to take a trip to Kansas.

That's better than a Timex story! I can't imagine how your heart was racing and how good it must have felt to pick the gun and case out of the water.

Thanks for the report!

MarshMan I am not real sure how deep the Mo River is but I would bet that it is not that deep. I have been looking for a boat ramp on the Kansas side to launch on the MO. This time of year the only way I want to know for sure would be to check it with a depth finder out of a boat. IF you know of a ramp to launch then let me know and we can hook up to check it out...Sean

If you look at a walk in map at atchsion county there should be a big blob on there just below atchison. i think that the number is twenty. if you go there and walk down to the river there is a boat ramp right across but i think its on the missorir side

I sold a Floating Shotgun Case to a guy this summer that was on the other end of shotgun in the water story in 2003. He lost a Benelli SBE in mud that was so deep his 12' push pole would not touch hard bottom. Great to hear you bought one before it happened to you.

Thanks,

Sean,

The same thing happened to me less than a week ago except that I saw mine fall out of the boat. I'll never be without the case!!!

Honkerdown,

Glad to see everything turned out in your favor! Someone was looking down on you when you motor got plugged up. I'm glad the case served its purpose.

Thanks for sharing!

I got one 2 years ago for Christmas. Though I have never had that happen, I figured i was just about due, so I made sure I got one. Now reading that story, I am glad I did. I have no intentions of testing it, but nice to know it does its job.
