Are the new FFD lighter in color or darker and
if anyone has experience with both have you
noticed a difference in how the geese decoy.
Thanks for any input.

Paul,

The FFD are a little lighter in color vs. the hunter series or Pro Grades do to the entire body being flocked. The FFD from my experience will have geese finishing better than a non flocked decoy. You know you have true realism when you have live birds in the decoys and you can't find them amongst the FFD's. There are alot of positive things about the FFD's that some people may not realize. The flocking will not frost up unless it gets extremely cold and in the snow the flocking will melt the snow off the decoy for a good amount of time where a standard painted decoy will build up snow much faster. IMO you can not go wrong with the FFD's!!!

I run both the 2004 FFDs as well as the 2005 FFDs on RealMotion Stakes. The birds decoy to them with no problems even though the new ones are a little lighter in color. This is something that is being addressed right now and we will keep everyone updated on the outcome.

Good Hunting!

The geese decoy extremely well into a spread of FFDs. The decoys movement and overall appearance makes the spread look great. Take a look at this picture of the FFDs in the field. Some are darker than others due to the point of view and the way the light hits the bird.

Curt, not only do the decoys look good but the scenery in the back ground looks awesome.

Personally, I like the lighter color. I think it makes them more visible. I've got a mix of 04's and 05's and the combination makes my spread look very realistic.

Don't know if they decoy any different but I'll tell you the light ones are too light for me. They are a grey silvery look & have yet to see a goose of that color. The dark FFDs are fine & in the kill hole & edges but I've moved the light ones out.

Up here, once it gets later in the season. It seems like all the birds we see in the fields are lighter in color like the '05 FFD's. I thought they were too light as well until I finally saw them in person and was amazed at how well they resemble live birds. Great paint scheme and nice movement.

I like how the FFD's look in pictures, But i have heard things that when you stand at them a little off they look green,

its funny you say that because when I hold a dead canada it seems to go from grey to green to brown depending how the light is hitting it. I have not noticed that with my ffd's though. If we are voting alittle darker would be my vote but no complaints on this years effectiveness.

The FFD's are going to look different depending on from which angle you are looking at them and which angle the light is hitting them. Silver, green, brown, whatever color they might be, I have yet to see the 'up and out' flare off of these like we used to get with plastics on certain days.

GREAT pics Tony. I especially like the one of the looker FFD with the real good in front of it ... IMO I would say the Avery team did an amazing job on the poses, they really are second to none, not even the real thing!

Tony, a picture is worth a thousand words! I still cannot believe we had those geese so comfortable, that they were eating all around us as WE walked around the decoys taking pictures. The beauty of a ffd's is that is does resemble a live goose. I have literally over 300 photos now of geese walking amongst the ffd's and can tell you that on one picture, they look dark, and another they look lighter, etc. etc. Same as the live geese. I am with some of you guy's as well. There has been day's when I look at my ffd's and think that they may be a little light, but then we look at the geese that we've killed and they are a shade darker and lighter than eachother so figure that one out. I will post a hero shot and look at the difference in color of the dead geese. It is pretty obvious.

As you can see, some of them are darker, and some are lighter. Like Tony said, the geese never really argued!!

I cannot figure out how to post a picture yet, so be patient. My old way obviously was too old.

Great pics Tony and Travis. The proof is in the pictures. If the geese don't mind, that is all that matters to me. The decoys resemble a live bird so much, the different shades of color help in my opinion. Just look at the pictures Travis posted. Those birds are not all exactly the same color.
