Goose decoys in the duck spread

I saw on the Cabelas website that they are selling GHG goose floaters in the resting style for 69.99.. $20 off. I was just wondering if I were to get 4 or 8 of these and put them in my duck spread would it make a difference for ducks. Do any of you guys do this. Thanks. Dakota Kid

DK,

We normally put goose floaters in every duck spread, unless we are hunting a tight mallard hole. I recommend using them in your spread:
A. it helps on visibility
B. why not try hunting for geese as well

You never know when a flock of geese may fly by.

Put them off to the side in their own group. They will mix but ducks tend to stick too the outside of geese.

Ditto to what Eric and Wayne posted. A few strategically placed Goose floaters will enhance most rigs.

I think that if there are geese in the area at all that the goose floaters could only make the duck hunting better. If nothing else it should add confidence to the spread. Ducks usually feel more comfortable if geese are around as well. When I have done this in the past, the ducks usually tried to sit next to the goose floaters in the spread.

If I am hunting a field, I always will put out goose decoys. But, down here I am using Specks instead of Canadas. We see very few Canadas down here and the season is very short. I know the goose decoys will add visibility and confidence to your decoy spread.

To not be too repetative on what has been said I too run goose decoys in all my duck spreads. Infact I have attached a picture of my normal duck spread. That consists of a large number of GHG goose floaters and a handfull of duck decoys placed off to one side of the geese.
In our area the mallards stick to the geese like glue. So there isn't a better spread for them then geese. We often shoot limits of mallards before the geese even get up to fly. I believe it would be a wise investment for you. GOOD LUCK this season!

Hey Wayne,Remember that day down on the Potomac, we had 5doz.ghg floater goose decoys out did'nt have a single duck decoy out and put the smackdown on some mallards,widgeon,gadwalls,blacks and even a few teal,not to mention a pile of geese.WHAT A AWESOME DAY...

Definitily get some goose floaters if you can. Usually by Thanksgiving here in MO, if we go to public ground we go to ALL goose floaters and just a handful of ducks. Goose season isn't even open then, but everybody out there is setting duck spreads and the all goose spread is something different. The ducks really respond well to goose decoys.

What about using snow goose decoys in duck spread? We don't see many dark geese around here but we do see snows. Any thoughts?
