I have a problem with the paint on the full body goose decoys. I have only hunted over them maybe 2 or 3 times and the paint is compleatley gone off the tail and is chiping in other spots. I love the way they look I just dont understand why they chip so easy, are the new ones better, what about the FFD how do they hold up, and is the paint on the duck decoys better or is it the same.

How much do you guide for waterfowl?

Anyway, you need to have your receipt and some digital photos ready when you call customer service. The number is 800-333-5119. Ask for Tim.

Thanks,

I used those before I started to guide then i stoped using them because of the paint comming off. This has nothing to do with what i asked, I asked is the paint on the new decoys any better.

The paint on the old decoys is fine. For the last time, and I am not getting defensive here, just telling the story one more time, the paint was never an issue the paint process was at times an issue. If they had missed a process or if the virgin plastic accidentally was touched before it was painted then the paint did not adhere. Not a paint problem. I can tell you that I have another brand right here in my hand that I bought before I worked for Avery, and their tails are almost completely without paint as well, and I never once thought about calling up the company to tell them that the paint was inferior or that that I couldn't believe that they would sell a product where the paint wouldn't stay on the plastic after I had been hunting with them and loading and unloading them out of my trailer. Heck I could of driven an hour and showed them, but I didn't.
What I am trying to say is that if you have a decoy where a step may have been missed, then do what Rick said and call customer service tomorrow morning because the paint is fine on the decoys new and old, but when you are building a product have it be a car or microwave, or decoy's, things may get missed. Not intentionally, but it happens with EVERYONE. Thanks for buying our product and remember if you think you have an issue, call 1-800-333-5119.

Great response, Travis. That is a good answer to any other question we should ever have regarding paint.

thanks for your answer, i did not mean to stir up any confrontation. I like the the decoys look and i was cust curious on why they lost paint so easily.

Sure a step may get missed but this is not the case. I have my fair share of full bodys and the only decoys I have a problem with is Avery's I have called and have gotten nowhere. New style or old style the paint is averys decoys biggest flaw. First was a problem with the bases, they fixed that, then was a problem with the heads staying on, they fixed that, Now if they could adhere a paint that would stay on if they take a little bump, THEN avery would have the BEST decoy on the market. Not to bag on Avery here but I am not a guide or a pro staffer and I out of pocket have to buy all of my decoys. I can't afford to buy replacement full bodys every year because the paint is coming off. I will say that I don't bag them and put a pretty little sock over their head. I put them on a shelves in a trailer and strap them down, So yes I will take some credit to rubbing some paint off myself once in a while but come on. You don't see big feet selling nice little bags and sock to put your decoys in every time you load them up. To me this is averys way of saying hey we havent mastered the paint process yet so handle them like they are your mothers china. I load and unload about thirty dozen avery decoys at least once a week and for me to put each one in a bag would take way to much time. I see customers settling for a decoy that looks like a football "big feet" that withstands the abuse of many set ups. Than a decoy the is truely lifelike that will only last one or two season. I hope I haven't offended anyone at avery, but maybe they will take my two cents worth and look for new and better ideas on paint adhesion.

I can understand your frustration as I have been on this forum for quite sometime, and I too, am so sick of seeing the same problems when the question has that has been answered a million times. But your tone in this message is not something I would expect from managers. This is the internet
and quite possibly im interperting your message incorrectly, but your frustration is showing. Again something that happens all the time as a manager, but In my mind something you shouldn't show publicly if you can help. Especially to a customer. Not telling you guys how to do your jobs, just giving my opinion. Happy New Years.

Im glad all my decoys were painted on wed. :D Paint is staying adhered after two years of abuse. No slotted bag, just a plain old bag. I do understand what Travis is saying about the process and not the paint. Paint wont stick to a surface that isnt clean for very long. But at same time i dont feel that the customer should eat the cost of a bad paint process. And if it takes more than a year to chip off it should still be covered. It should be easy to tell the difference between chipping, rubbing or abuse. Photos dont lie

Gooseman706...welcome to the messageboard, how about telling us about your hunting, if you have 30 dozen Avery dekes you must have had some good hunts so would love to see some pics....but why would you drag up a post from 2005??

And why would others who should know better jump on the bandwagon?

I thought it was you northern hemisphere guys hunting season and you would have better things to do?

I just know that every year we have been doing decoys that the amount of returns goes down. The first year was a nightmare. We had half a warehouse full of returns. People were returning other manufactures decoys to us for replacement.

Fast forward to this year. I was in Memphis in December. We had about six pallets of returned decoys. This is not bad for the amount of decoys we sell in a year.

I know that we are improving every year and will continue to do so.

Thanks,

I have over 50dz, yes 50, GHG decoys and most were bought BEFORE I came on to the Pro Staff and I can count on one hand the ones that have any chips missing. Some of these decoys are 4-5 years old.:D

I am not talking about paint chipping yes I know about the process of getting paint to stick. I am talking about the durability of the paint. For instance I am going to use some examples don't get all fussy with me about talking of another decoy, but Big Feet there paint is somewhat impregnated into the plastic, yes you will see some wear but nothing like the wear of a avery. Ok don't everyone go out and try this, but take an avery in your hand and set an avery on the ground under it, hold the decoy straight out in front of you and drop it don't throw it just let it go, like you drop it on the ground or the bed of your truck, on the other decoy. The paint will come off. Ok Y does this matter thats not what they are for. True but if you do the same test with big feet, or say final approach the paint may mare a bit but it is still there. I would just like to see averys come up with a paint that is more durable no matter how you test them. I know that paint will come off over time but Avery decoys new out of the box shows wear in the paint just from being shipped.

Are you talking about decoys from two or even three years ago?

We are not seeing this via the warranty claims.

Eatin some crappies tonight as a matter of fact. Walleyes are going nuts on the river, but chunk ice and fiberglass don't mix. I guess I should call Ranger and ask if thats covered in their warranty.
