View Full Version : Quick Set Flip Tops

I just finished watching Whistling Wings 7. In one part they are hunting out of a boat with a quick set blind on it. The flip top doors almost touch in the middle of the boat, virtually eliminating the open space that runs the length of the boat. Have the blinds been re-designed to do this or was the boat narrow? I wish my blind would cover more of the boat when the doors were closed.

DJ,

That was a fairly narrow boat. I have the exact same model as my personal boat, and modified the blind to get more of an opening in the top. After hunting from Quick-Set Blinds for the last 7 years, I have found that I like an 18 inch gap between the flips. This provides plenty of shade for hunters to stay hidden, and allows you to easily follow birds when they swing behind you. A wide gap provides the additional benefit of allowing you to stand up and stretch your legs between birds without opening the flip tops.

Let me know exactly how wide the gap is in your top, and I'll be happy to try and help close it up.

DJ,

What Bill knows and is not telling you is that the Quick-Set has been under "redevelopment" for the past 5 months. After reading his post, I decided it was time to go ahead and let the entire Quick-Set Team (which you are on whether you knew it or not!) out there know that the "gap issue" along with about 10 other concerns with the blind have been addressed, studied and resolved. This redevelopment includes:

1) making the aluminum stronger but lighter;
2) decreasing the amount of installation time by about one half;
3) eliminating any "overhead gaps" by making the FlipTops meet in the middle on every boat from 14' to 19' in length;
4) eliminating any downward sway in the blind's frame or the FlipTops no matter what length the blind is extended to;
5) eliminating any back-and-forth movement of the frame;
6) reducing the shipping costs to about one half the previous cost;
7) eliminating the use of d-rings to hold the legs in place;
8) eliminating the "horizontal line" effect of the CamoNets;
9) adding molded nylon gun barrel rests, drink holders and shell trays;

Needless to say, this redevelopment cost a few bucks and invloved creating over 10 new molds. Avery started its business with the Quick-Set, and it has fed our families. We had not given it the respect it deserved, if you will, and we decided to go back, start over and give the waterfowl world something to really talk about. I can guarantee you the 2003 models will absolutely blow you away!

The good news is that the price for these blinds will be substantially less than before even though we have made these changes. The better news is that you will not have to buy a new one to get these improvments - you will be able to purchase the parts and accessories that will retro-fit your current model to the new model with very little effort or expense.

Please be patient and your blind will do everything you want it to do and more.

Thanks,

Tom Matthews

DJ, I HAVE HUNTED WITH A QUICK-SET ON A 19' LOWE FOR THE PAST THREE SEASONS. I HAVE A ABOUT A 20" GAP AT THE TOP. THE DUCKS DON'T SEEM TO MIND. I'VE USED IT FOR PUDDLE AND DIVING DUCKS ON THE CHESAPEAKE WITH GREAT SUCCESS. IT IS A GREAT PRODUCT.ON A PRIOR POST ALLEN ADDRESSED A SIMILIAR QUESTION. HE SUGGESTED USING THE RAIN TOPS TO CREATE SHADOWS IN THE BOAT. I AM GOING TO BE EXPERIMENTING WITH INCORPORATING AVERY REAL GRASS INTO MY BLIND ALONG WITH THE SHADOW GRASS PATTERN BLIND MATERIAL. I love it when the cat comes out of the bag. The new design is awesome, and I couldn't see how the old Quick-Set could be improved. It will even allow me to set my wide gap blind on any boat.

Tom,

When do you expect the new blinds to be out? I want to get one should I wait until the new ones are out?
