View Full Version : Question about footbases

I just purchased a couple dozen GHG full body goose dekes to add to my spread. They are indeed an awesome looking deke... I've no doubt they'll have more than a few long necks meeting their maker this season. I purchased 1 1/2 doz feeders, 1/2 doz actives, and 1/2 doz lookers. The footbases on the feeders and lookers seem fine, but the bases on the actives all lean further back by anywhere from 1/2" to 3/4" (the base, not the body). This results in a very noticeable tail heavy lean in the body that does not look natural. I have ensured all the nuts are fastened securely. It looks like I need to grind/shave down the top of the leg to level it out where it connects to the base that locks into the body. Anyone else have this problem? Also, I thought that all this years decoys had lock nuts on them instead of the plain nuts. With the exception of the lookers, the rest have plain nuts. Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks... Clint

I don't work for Avery, but I can tell you a few things from my experiences this year. All of them were supposed to have lock nuts on them, but I heard that they had a bunch of regular nuts left over so they used them. If I'm right this was kind of a surprise to the Avery guys and a choice made by someone in the factory in China. I was told that the contract was supposed to be for lock nuts. All your actives and feeders must have been from the first groups ran while the lookers were of course later runs so this is why they have the lock nuts.

As far as the leaning goes, you need to call Customer Service and ask the question to them. Their number is 1-800-333-5119. They know a lot more and should be able to provide you with more info.

I had a problem with my lookers leaning forward. This caused a very unnatural lean to them. I ended up getting the problem resolved thanks to Bill Cooksey. It ended up being a very small piece of plastic that didn't get cleaned off and didn't allow the rod to sit in the hole right. Less than 10 mins. to take care of all 6 and then they all looked great. Bill said that this is a VERY isolated problem that they haven't heard much on.

It seems that there are still a few small bumps in the road, but Avery seems to be doing an excellent job of trying to get them all taken care of and still make everyone happy! Call them and I'm sure they will get you fixed up!

Thanks for the info... Everything I've heard so far about Avery's c/s has been very good so I'll give them a call this morning and see what they have to say. Appreciate your insight on the subject Matt!

ShortReed,

If customer service doesn't get you taken care of, ask to speak to Bill. He will get you taken care of.

I had a couple of decoys that leaned forward. I made sure the nuts were tight and pushed ever so slightly on the tail of the decoy to make it straight.

NWMOhunter is right on the nuts, they were supposed to be lock nuts. We had some shipments get thru before we could stop it and get the lock nuts going. I tightened all mine and have not had any come loose.

Thanks,
