If you have a petco or petsmart near you they have a puppy food specially made for labs...if thats why you have...if not they have all different types of breeds. It is a little pricy but i think in the long run it will be worth it....cause anything that is specially formulated for your dog is going to have benefits.

We use Halo. You can buy it at PETCO. All natural, no "meal" in it. Very high protein. Very expensive though.

For Retrievers we use Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy for the first year. The Iams Large Breed puppy is a good food as well and it is readily available at large retail stores.

Whiskey Jack, 'meal' actually has more nutrition in it than whole ingredients in the same volume. Meal is the ingredient with the water removed and ground up. 1 pound of Chicken meal has more protein in it than 1 pound of whole chicken (because of the water in the Chicken). So, seeing meal in the food isn't a bad thing.

I just got all of my dogs on Native. They seem to like it. I dont know if that means much because they would probably eat warmed up rock. What i like about this dog food is that you control protien to fat ratios.
Other Key fetures:[*]Natural Proteins [*]No by-products [*]No corn [*]No wheat [*]No soy [*]Probiotics [*]Omega 3 & 6 Chelated minerals [*]Yeast cultures [*]Very high energy
