Default Camera and cold.

I have a Nikon D-40 and I was wondering is it okay to take it out in the cold hunting with me? My dad says he thing condensation will appear on the inside of the lense because of the temp change. Any imput would be great.

Condensation can appear. You will notice this if you put it near or inside your waders, or inside a coat with body heat and then expose to air. Keep the camera in your blind bag and outside of the initial getting exposed to the cold air their wont be a problem.
Expose the lens directly into the wind to help dissapate the effects. Take care in bringing the camera back inside after the hunt and try to keep the condensation from appearing.

Well I've had mine out in single degree temperatures snapping 500+ photo's so the camera and lense can take the cold weather.

You just have to deal with the following:
1. battery life..colder it gets the more your battery will go down
2. condsenation will collect on the equipment when it gets a drastic temperature change. I place my camera in a blind bag inside a Cabela's waterproof bag and going out into the field it doesn't really brother too much. However, when I get home, I'll leave the camera in the blind bag and let it warm up for a couple hours, then take the waterproof bag and let it warm up for awhile and then finaly take it out.

It seems I carry more batteries then shells after December, 1st. Billfold in the back pocket and a battery in each of the front pockets to keep them warm. I've shot many days in weather from zero to 10 below. The cameras these days can really handle to cold. Condensation happens when you switch from cold to warm, too quickly. Micheal is right, just leave it in your bag for a hour or so.

Here is one at under 10 below. River ice fog. Great duck day.

you will also notice your camera may also get alot slower in how it focuses, or just the overall opperation.
