Favorite Field Canada Goose Spread for Late Sesaon

Just wondering what everyone likes for feild setting up on Canada's late in the season.

Around my part of the country late season means 2-4 foot of snow and cold temps. When it gets that time of year I rely heavily on shell decoys and silo's that represent sitting geese. I will use a few full bodies, maybe one for every 18 shell dekes). I tend put the dekes fairly close to each other and leave plenty on landing pockets out in front of the blinds.

By watching geese on the refuge I've noticed that during extreme cold and deep snow they tend to land and immediately sit down and tuck their legs up to keep warm. When they get up and move to feed they will walk a short distance and sit back down.

I'll agree 100% with Shawn. When I scout, I not only watch what field the geese go into, but most important, I pay extra close attention at what the geese themselves are doing and try to set my spread the same way. I'll take the feet off my full body decoys and also use a lot of shells. Just remember that the geese are the best teachers around.

SHAWN AND BRET HAVE MOST OF IT COVERED THE ONLY THING THAT I COULD ADD IS KNOW YOUR GEESE. MEANING ARE THEY WISE GEESE THAT HAVE HAD PRESURE ON THEM ALL YEAR OR ARE THEY CITY GEESE THAT HAD TO RELOCATE BECAUSE OF THERE WATER SOURCE HAS FROOZE UP. NOT ALL LATE SEASON GEESE ARE CREATED EQUAL I'LL TAKE THE CITY GEESE THAT HAVE RELOCATED EVERY TIME. SHELL DECOYS ARE AWESOME.

I really like to go set up right on the river in East Park with a bag of wonder bread and make it more sporting by trying to smash their heads with a canoe paddle. The real secret to this deal is...*whispering* the 6'10" guy dressed up in the complete goose suit. You really have to try that bobble head on good to make it stay...but other than that...it's RUTHLESS!! BBBOOOYYY....HUH?

Most of it's been covered, but what I do around here is when everybody is putting out 10-15+ dozen, I'll scale way back maybe put out 3-5 dozen. If it's cold it's mostly shells with a few full bodies mixed in. The birds around here get so use to seeing big spreads that using something smaller tends to work. Remember your flag! I do a lot of flagging. There are times when I would rather have my flag in my hands than my call. Like everybody has said, watch and learn what the birds are doing.
