Hunting question for FRED ZINK

Fred, Need your help. We have a 1300 acre lease in the ricefields. All the fields are underwater. NO DRY LAND at all. We have specks looking around but seemed confused at all the water.We have never had this problem before. Any tips for hunting these birds under this type of situation?

Fred is on the road right now, but I'll let him know that you have a question for him. From your post, I would say that you are a prime candidate for floater decoys and layout boats. Is there any exposed ground on your areas? If so, a mixture of shells in the shallow water and on exposed ground and floaters in deeper water should work well. Are ground blinds, like the Power Hunter, an option at all?

Thanks Bill, Yes there is very little room for ground blinds. This area, is normally never this wet and the birds are very weiry, nervous, to say the least. Thanks for the info!

SPECS? THE QUESTION IS WHAT TYPE OF SPECS, THE SMART ONES OR THE EASY ONES, THERE SEEMS TO BE KNOW INBETWEEN WITH THEM. WITH THE WATER EVERY WERE IT'S HARD TO HIDE. BEIND HID IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING! I WOULD SUGGEST A SMALL A-FRAME TYPE OF BLIND, ONE THAT WOULD ONLY HIDE 2-3 PEOPLE, YOU CAN ALLWAYS TAKE TURNS IF THERE ARE MORE THAN 3 PEOPLE THAT WANT TO HUNT. THIS BLIND IS CONSTRUCTED IN THE SHAPE OF AN "A" FROM THE SIDE FROFILE AND SHOULD BE THE HEIGHT OF YOUR HEAD WHEN YOU ARE SITTING ON A 5GAL BUCKET. I LIKE TO COVER THE BLINDS IN AVERY REAL GRASS AND JUST ADD A LITTLE NATUERAL CAMO FROM THE SURROUNDINGS TO MAKE IT BLEND. POSTION THE BLIND DOWN WIND AND JUST OUTSIDE THE FLIGHT LINE OF THE GEESE. CALL AT THE GEESE AT A DISTANCE AND AS THE GEESE APPROACH GET QUIET, DO NOT GIVE YOUR LOCATION AWAY.

Thanks Fred,I will give it a try.I hear ya on those specs. By the time they get to southwest Louisiana, they are all pretty smart. Our lease is drying out good now and hunting is picking up. our camp, 9 hunters killed 25 specs and 2 snows this past weekend!
