Avery Pro-Staffer Dave Weidner, Addresses Gun Dog Lovers at Cabela’s “Dog Weekend” in Hamburg, PA.



The Cabela’s store in Hamburg, PA recently held their annual “Dog Weekend” on June 18 & 19. Avery Pro-Staffer and Dog Committee member Dave Weidner was on hand to present three gun dog seminars to help upcoming waterfowlers become better dog handlers and trainers.



Dave’s presentations included basic obedience training, handling, and introduction to blind retrieves with the final afternoon seminar presentation given on advanced handling techniques and how to prepare your dog training program to various different styles of waterfowling. Two chocolate Labrador retrievers, Storm and Twister, did the honors and they charmed the crowd while completing some long blind retrieves to demonstrate the importance of control and obedience, hit the water pond for some simple marks and then demonstrated a more complex training technique known as “swim-by” used to help dogs become proficient at handling in the water.



The seminars showcased the Avery Dog Finisher blind, Avery Heeling Stick, Avery Floating Trainers Holster, Avery Pro Trainers Bag and a variety of Avery leashes and collars. Cabela’s will be presenting another Dog weekend in late August and Dave has been invited to speak and present again on Avery’s behalf.
