Default Taking a first time duck hunter....

...isn't always a young kid. Yesterday, I took my 72 year-old father-in-law on his first duck hunt. Granted, in the day, he used to shoot a few ducks by jump shooting the sloughs, but, yesterday, I got him on some real decoying wood duck hunting. He had a ball watching Bear work and watching the ducks fall to the boom of a X-trema2 and an old Winchester pump. Notice the attire difference. We literally had 1000's of woodies flying the slough before shooting hours. I have never seen so many birds in one spot, and 99% of them were woodies. A few teal and a few mallards, but mostly woodies. What a day, oh, and yeah, a little bling to go with it. Shot 11/25/2006 in SW IN, banded 9/30/2005 on IL...not sure where in IL yet, but it has obviously made the migration. Hope you enjoy the story and the photos.

Awesome. Way to take your father-in-law out, I bet he loved it. I love Wood Ducks, that must have been an awesome sight.

Thanks for the post. That is a great story and I am sure this will not be his last duck hunt with you.
