Default Full Body Decoys

I was just wondering if yall have thought about creating a like a cap, (with a circle hook to hang line) to go on the bottom of the full body to convert it into a water decoy? I have a set of the full body mallards and i would love to use them more but I cant hunt them in real deep places like the river, I would think a cap insert would work for this.

I was also wondering about creating a lighweight full body. Like the "featherflex" turkey decoys, I would think yall could make mallard and goose decoys out of this type of material and they would be extremely light weight. I know this is flambeaus product but i would think yall could create a similiar type of fabric that would work just as well.

We have a lot of WMA's here that have fields that require walking if the water is down, and Lightweight full bodies would definately be the way to go, I think a good looking fullbody that could dance, with minimum wind would definately be the ticket to success.

thanks, Austin

How deep is the section of the river that you are hunting? If it is 3-4 feet you could make extended stakes for for FB's. We have a dozen w/ some extended stakes and they work like a charm! The birds don't know what hit em'. If you are looking for a light weight decoy, the mallard shells could be an option. I have seen them and they are very light, extremely realistic, and look alot like the FB's. Hope this helps.

Ellis, you took the words out of my mouth about using the shells. If you are looking for an alternative to FB's, the shells are the way to go. I put two dozen in a bag the other day and you can hardly tell they are there.

oh im not saying the shells arent light or wouldnt be nice, but you could carry probably 3 or 4 times more decoys if they were made out of a lightweight type material. Mallards you may not need that many but sometime bigger canandian decoy spreads help draw in smart resident canadians here and it would definately be nice to lighten the load.

I think a snow goose pattern would be awsome also, im sure if you can fool a big ole gobbler you can surely trick some waterfowl.

On the fullbody cap idea, those stakes would probably work but there are some deeper spot than that, and i dont wanna lug all those stakes around

I understand what you are talking about, but the guys hit the nail on the head when they suggested the mallard shells. My opinion would be to use just floaters in the extremely deep water and then use some type of extension for the stakes in the water that is less than 3 feet deep. If you are in a boat, the stakes would not take up that much room.

I posted up a couple weeks back about floating fullbodies on a piece of foam. Pics are included. It worked great. Feel free to give it a try.
