I'm having one heck of a time getting the keels on about half of 6 dozen new decoys. the boxes have been in my barn for about 2 months, and just tried getting the keels on this weekend, and had a lot of trouble.
I know it says don't pound on them, but short of that, i can't get the things to budge past about 3/4 of the way up the slot. input...??? |

Also a lot easier if they're warm, bring them inside for a while if you can.

All great tips. Give it a running start and use what has been previously posted, and they will slide right on.

On some of my decoys I have had some trouble getting the keels to go all the way in. Instead of pushing on the keel I push on the decoy while I have the keel pressed against something sturdy like a wall. this allows you to use omore force and attach them correctly.

how much would it cost to add a piece of paper in the box that says use dishsoap to lube the slot. just better customer relations, and less frustrated customers

Run hot water on them, you will not have that problem.... Make sure you run a hotglue line in the trench of the keel after the keel is in. That way they stay put.....

What worked best for me was to heat them with a hair dryer. A couple seconds on high and they snapped right in.

what type of decoys? The soap worked on all the ones I bought except the widgeon; they had some small spurs from the mold in the slot around 3/4" or 1" from the end. I had to grind them off with my Dremel and then they locked right in.
