Location: Southern Central New York Weather: Warm and partly cloudy Temperature: 60’s Equipment Used: AveryŽ Sportsman’s Camera Bag, AveryŽ Field Staff Hat, AveryŽ Ankle Gaiters Fisherman: Rick Murphy and AveryŽ Pro-Staffer David Rearick Journal Notes: After an exciting turkey hunt that put is within feet of taking a bird multiple times, we headed out four a 4 mile trek on a small rocky stream holding wild brown trout placed there over 100 years prior. With camera, a small assortment of tackle, and our fishing rods we started out. It wasn’t long until there first fish was caught, and while not the biggest trout, these wild browns quickly proved that pound for pound, they had more fight than stocked fish of back home. As the day grew long, so did the fish and Murphy landed the prettiest fish of the day and one the largest on the third or forth hole we fished. We fished each hole quickly, as this trek required a lot climbing up and down to get into the good spots and darkness was our enemy. Fishing each hole long enough for a fish proved the most rewarding, and we piggy backed tacking turns at the first cast, as sometimes it was the only one necessary to catch a fish and stir the waters enough to kill the bite on these small waters. Along the way we passed over many moss covered rocks and slate, something not so good for rubber soled waders, but a bruised body was well worth the adventure. The sights of undisturbed land and waterfalls are not something we see too often in this portion of the country and it seemed like every bend has something different to look at or photograph. At the end of the day, we had caught 23 wild brown trout and traveled through a maze of waterfalls and rocks to end up at the truck parked strategically at the end of the good portion of the stream and back in civilization. The most colorful fish of the day and Murph... ![]() ![]() My biggest of the day... ![]() Some Waterfalls... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
