I would have to say that these shells will not work with wad stripping chokes. The reason for this is two-fold. The main reason being that with this type of shot, the wad was specifically designed to keep the pellets in the shot cup until the last possible second. This is the exact same principle as the black cloud wads. You would not want to strip the wad from a shot that was designed to stay in it. Secondly, the forward-deploying petals that are designed to slow the wad would like get destroyed by the choke lugs, causing blown patterns and you would likely wear the choke out very quickly. I am not an expert, but I have done a lot of studying and research on this type of wad. All of the major manufacturers are going to this type of wad in their 'high-end' steel shot, but I have a feeling it will make its way down to the cheaper shells as well eventually. This wad truly makes a big difference in pattern density.

I got 2 boxes of these from Mack's PW during the world duck calling championships. Winchester was there and they were selling them for people to try. I have patterned them out of my SBEII with a improved modified tru-lock choke and the pattern was not that great. It was still effective but I still get better pattern's with Hevi metal, etc. I would try some 4 shot of this blind side though, considering that all they had was 2 shot.

I had an opportunity to speak with one of the Blind Side engineers. He indicated while they havent tested Blind Side with all the available choke tubes, they have tested Blind Side with a number of choke tubes and in fact had just finished shooting patterns with some Indian Creek Choke tubes. So far, they have not seen any flaws with this load with any particular barrel or choke system.
He further indicated it is best for each shooter to pattern their personal guns/choke tubes to determine optimal performance as there can be variation between identical setups. Personally, I had great success patterning Blind Side with the improved cylinder, modified and full chokes that came with my gun and based upon the shooting situations, will likely use those various chokes this fall.

Given that the pellets were not round two questions come to mind here.
How was the penetration into ballistic gelatin downrange as compared to same size round steel at the same velocity? What were the downrange velocities compared with same size round steel? |
