With respect to your questions, I can tell you that the Blind Side pellets didn't penetrate the ballistic gelatin quite as far as the round pellets. On average, I saw about half an inch less penetration. However, what I did observe under slow motion replay was the Blind Side pellets caused lots of damage as they entered the gelatin and tumbled through the gelatin. It was like the gelatin was boiling. As for the round pellets, they entered the gelatin on a straight path, with very little fan fair, almost like a hot pin entering butter.

In terms of down range velocities, we never did set up on chrongaphs. However, I was able to watch slow motion videos of round pellet and Blind Side loads of the same velocity being shot at the same time and the pellets were hitting the pattening boards simulataneously. During that time, I noticed that the Blind Side loads pattterned more consistenly. In the field I also noticed no difference in lead distance when hunting with these loads.

The wound channels left by irregularly shaped projectiles is known to be much more damaging and therefore traumatic. Penetration is somewhat less than round pellets, but that is to be expected with any shape other than pointed or round, lead or steel.

Winchester does seem to have hit upon something that will improve the capabilities steel shot.

While this makes steel more effective, it doesn't make it a "lead shot equivalent" and hunters need to be mindful about the limited capabilities of steel shot in any shape.

Read in the winchester magazine(i believe) that the shells will be priced 17-22 a box of 25 shells, and will be out in sometime in June 2011. Well its June 2011 has anyone seen it out yet? It does look interesting and will probably try a box or two.

I got to use a few boxes last year, I still found Kent #1 in a wad wizard a lot better, Most of my hunting friends found the same deal. I found that in close range there was no difference but after 30 yards you can hear the pellets hit the bird and nothing.. I think they loss there steam fast.

I bought a box of 3" #2 last night.. The first thing I did was cut the top off one to see the stacking of the pellets..

Not as advertised.....

The wad seems similar to the Cloud...

Now to the test board for patterning... Will be shootinging a SBE2 with a Full Kicks High Flyer choke tube....

Yup. That's exactly what's going to happen when you use a BALISTICALLY INFERIOR pellet shape! All those flat sides to catch the air and slow down the pellet. I like my geese at my feet but there are situations that call for that extra oompf and past 35 or 40 yards I think these loads are goind to leave alot of guys scratching their heads as to why that goose they just hammered at 45 yards with a blindside load didn't go down or worse, sailed a half a mile, only to drop into a woodlot or swamp...or some anti huntrer's back yard! I'll take a nice round steel pellet (if it has to be steel) and crush geese at the ranges they were meant to used. Now before all you guys go and say, "Well HeviShot kills past where it should and its got all those weird shapes to it", remember one thing...It's over 50% DENSER than steel shot (actually about 65% denser) is ALMOST round, and holds it's energy MUCH BETTER than any steel pellet ever could. Unfortunately for Winchester, and I am a fan of their ammo, I think they've got themselves one big ole' flash in the pan of a product with this one. I like the idea of the wad. The pellets...not so much.
