I shot a cross between a mallard and a woodie. Over all size is of a woodie. It had a green mallard head w/a few light sprinkles of white by the bill. The bill was that of a mallard. No white ring around the neck. Chest was typical mallard drake but w/a white star in the middle a little bigger than a quarter. Tail feathers are square like a woodie but has a feather curl on top. The wings is what told me the other half was a woodie, exact match. It flew in to the decoys like a bluebill would. I have herd of mallards breeding w/other dabblers, but never a wood duck.

I couldn't download the picture, but we've killed a few crosses around here over the last few years. I killed a cross between a mallard and a gadwal which I mounted. It looks like one of those duck paintings done by someone who has never seen a live wild duck... interesting critter to say the least.

Black/Mallard crosses are actually pretty common. We kill two or three every year. However, young drake mallards can look very similar to a black/mallard hybrid.

I have killed an albino hen mallard,an albino rooster, a hen redhead/ringneck cross and a drake mallard/sprig cross. Maybe I'm just real lucky or the weird birds just like me!
